South of The Gambia, vegetation is more lush and green than in the rest of Senegal. Closer to the coast, palm trees can be seen.

Toward the west, the vegetation can be especially tropical. Do not confuse the south with some green-looking coverage near Dakar; in the south, the vegetation looks much more low and coastal.

On the N1 between Tambacounda and Nayé, the road generally runs northeast-east. A railway runs parallel: it is south of the road from Tambacounda to just before Youpe Amadi, then north of the road from Youpe Amadi to Bellé.

Distinct, tall patches of bright yellow grass can be seen along the N3, mostly eastward in the Matam Region.
