Siberian larches are a dominant tree species in much of eastern Russia, with distinctive needle-like leaves. They become more prevalent farther east and at higher elevations.

Birches growing very close together, especially forests made up only of birches, point to areas east of the Urals. This is most commonly seen between Chelyabinsk Oblast and Novosibirsk Oblast.

Birch trees, identified by their white peeling bark, have a wide range in Russia. In the western part of the country, they are almost never found far south or far north.

Common in several distinct parts of Russia, including areas around Kemerovo and Krasnoyarsk, Orenburg and Kamyshin, Lipetsk, and Moscow city. Identification usually depends on the surrounding landscape, since these places tend to look fairly different.

Extremely gravelly, sometimes dark soil appears when approaching the mountains east of Yakutsk. This terrain is noted starting around Keskil.

A very green river basin in western Buryatia, with tall, jagged mountains to the north. It is much greener than most of Buryatia.

Siberian larches and large mountains appear along the main road south of Yakutsk. The road is mostly paved but can become wide gravel, and a Generation 4 white car appears north of Berkakit.

Generation 4 coverage is extensive and appears in most federal subjects. The Altai Mountains and most of the Far East have no Generation 4 coverage, while dark red marks areas where all coverage is Generation 4.

Look for sunset coverage with the sun very close to the horizon and an east-facing landscape. This points to the P-297 in Amur Oblast, roughly between Never and Sivaki.
TerrainBorderland Terrain Spillover
This terrain coverage extends slightly into the neighbouring Tyumen and Novosibirsk Oblasts. The spillover is noted in the south and near Tatarsk, respectively.

Olkhon Island on Lake Baikal has a single road that runs over rolling sandy hills. Lake Baikal is often visible directly, with a mountain ridge across the bay.

Dry steppe mountains with a long antenna usually indicate the Tuva Republic. The south part of the main road in Altai Republic and Tuva can look similarly dry, so driving direction and cloudiness can help tell them apart.

Generation 4 red car is the most common generation 4 car meta in Russia. It is found primarily in the east around Khanty-Mansi and along the main highways down to Irkutsk and Ulan-Ude, with additional patches near Penza, Tatarstan, and Rostov-on-Don.

Autumn Generation 4 is a rare clue type in Russia. It is found around Kazan, on a few roads in Murmansk, and in parts of Ulan-Ude.

Look for a B-type long antenna with its highest ridge on the left side. Notable areas include Yaroslav to Vladimir, Tula Oblast, and much of the coverage near Tuva and Irkutsk.

The A-type long antenna has its highest ridge on the right side. White car long antenna coverage is almost all A-type, so checking for A-type can also help confirm car colour.
